Aid for Orphans and Widows
GIF-J8 was born out of a deep desire to create change, inspired by the challenges faced by vulnerable communities both in Africa and here in the United States. In late 2022 and early 2023, while living in Newark, NJ, We reflected on our journey from Africa to the U.S. in 2017. Leaving behind our family, friends, and church, We often thought about those we had left behind, particularly the orphans and widows struggling with poverty. When we learned that a group of orphans was abandoned at our old church, we felt compelled to help.
Living in a country of abundance, and seeing vast amounts of clothing and resources being discarded daily. We saw an opportunity for a lifeline. By organizing donations to send back home, and giving employment to those in need by making them sell the clothes and giving them a share of the revenues while the other share goes to the orphans cause. We aim to provide widows and young mothers with means to earn an income, while also ensuring that the orphans received the care and resources they desperately needed. This initiative not only provides employment but also supports the most vulnerable among us, allowing us to tackle two pressing issues at once.
